Canadian Club of Rhode Island
Manager L.G. Gouin of Central Falls organized the Canadian Club of Rhode Island in 1928 to compete against amateur and college teams. Players included stars from the 1927 Industrial Hockey League including Eric Mortenson and Dud Shallcross of the R.I. Fish Co., William Bull, Newport millionaire sportsman, and Curley Oden of the Merchants. They played the famous University Club of Boston at the Rhode Island Auditorium standing off their flashy attack and catching the fancy of the crowd losing 3-0. Not many teams had held the University Club to such a low score up till then as they were used to swamping some of the best amateur sextets in the country.
