The Eastern Olympic Hockey Club had been in the planning stages for a long time.  The aim was to improve the Eastern hockey player so that he will be able to play on Olympic and National teams.  In the past when a player graduated from college ranks it was the end of his hockey career.  The Olympics organized the best amateur talent available and molded a solid team.  The 1965-66 schedule included NCAA opponents University of New Hampshire, Brown University, Providence College, Boston University, Boston College, Harvard University, Merrimack College, University of Minnesota at Deluth, Dalhousie University and Colby College as well as  pro outfits Clinton Comets (New York), New Haven Blades and New Hampshire Shamrocks of the Eastern Hockey League.  The Olympics also played Canadian strongholds Kingston Hockey Club, St. Hyacinthe Hockey Club, Drummonville (Quebec) and Sandy's Royals (Charlotte, P.E.I.).  Four Rhode Islanders made the squad: Allan Soares (Cranston HS & Brown), Don Hebert (Cranston HS & Brown), John Kennedy (East Providence and Norwich) and Lou Lamoriello (LaSalle and PC).
