CYO Senior Hockey League
The 1938-39 and 1939-40 CYO Hockey League seasons were played outdoors on Steere's Pond, Stone's Pond, Limerock Pond, Greene's Pond, Mashpaug Pond, Whipple Pond and the Cranston Recreation Field. Due to the lack of ice on desired ponds in 1938-39, league director Bob Dwyer managed to have the playoffs played at the RI Auditorium. Former LaSalle star Dewey Kehoe helped lead St. Raymond's to a win to secure a co-championship with St. Michael's. St. Michael's defended the title in 1939-40. The final three seasons were played indoors at the Auditorium. St. Paul's won in 1940-41 by beating Blessed Sacrament 7-1. Jim McGrath, Blessed Sacrament center, led the league in scoring. St. Paul's retained the crown in 1941-42 by beating Precious Blood's Flying Frenchmen 5-2. The 1942-43 season saw Johnny Creamer of St. Paul's challenge teammate Ted Dooley's scoring record, but the war put an end to the season early. The selective service and enlistments to Uncle Sam were too big an obstacle for the league to overcome. St. Paul's of Edgewood, the class of the league, was declared champions once again.
