RI Scarlets 1960s
The RI Scarlets intended to compete in the 1960 NE Senior A.H.A. Championship in Berlin, NH but too much snow and too many injuries forced the sextet to forfeit to Rockland in the opening round. They substituted for the New Jersey Jets on late notice in the 1960 Eastern A.H.A. Senior Championship in Lewiston, ME playing Lewiston Country Kitchen (L 4-2), Berlin Maroons (L 3-1) and the Rochester Olympics (L 7-4). They returned to the 1961 New England A.H.A. Senior Championship reaching the semi-final by beating Arlington 6-2 before falling t0 the eventual champions Rockland Estes 5-1. Allan Soares was named to the All-Tourney team. They continued to compete and represented the Cranston Amateur Hockey Association (C.A.H.A.) coached by Dick Vandall. In the 1962 New England Senior "A" Tournament at the Crystal Palace in Norwalk, CT they beat the South Boston McMasters 4-2 and lost to South Boston Hockey Club 7-3 in the semi-finals. They played for the New England Southeastern Championship in Norwalk, CT against the potent Home Oilers. The best of 3 series ended in a draw after a 7-5 loss and a 3-3 tie due to rough play. They also played in the Spring/Fall Senior A Leagues at Worcester Arena in Worcester, MA. They also took on lofty opponents including South Boston McMasters, Fairbanks Electric of Burrillville, RI and the Fort Devens Hockey Club.
