Rhode Island Marquettes
The Rhode Island Marquettes finished runner-up in the New England Amateur Hockey League in the 1938-39 season. The league included Boston Junior Olympics, Springfield Braves and the Brookville Club from Holbrook, MA. Coach Gus Rivers hand picked star players from the Inter-City Amateur Hockey League. Many of the players were from the Club Marquette squad from Woonsocket who won the 1939 NEAAU championship and competed in the National AAU championships at New Haven, CT. Dr. Armand Picard was team manager. Ralph "Swede" Erickson (Warwick), Joe Lussier (MSC), and brothers George and Norm Desaulniers (MSC) were Marquettes. Al LaForce and Ray Chaisson combined to lead in scoring. The "Flying Frenchmen" also played games against New Haven Brock-Halls and "97" Club of Boston.
