Dueling Opinions
Mount St. Charles' celebrated 1939 squad swept all six positions on the Journal's All-Rhode Island first team but missed out on two positions (wing and goal) on the Bulletin's All-Rhode Island club to match the Journal's picks. Winger Norman Desaulniers of Mount St. Charles made the Journal team while teammate Bob Seguin earned a wing spot on the Bulletin squad. Mount's Georges Belanger and Warwick's Bill Thayer earned the other wings on the Journal and Bulletin first team respectively. Brad Gibbs of Hope earned Evening Bulletin's first team in goal while Dan O'Brien of Mount was selected by the Journal on the first team. Center Dick Rondeau and defensemen Oscar Galipeau and Adelard Jourdain, all of Mount St. Charles, were the only players to be selected by both newspapers on the first team in 1939.

The Providence Journal and Evening Bulletin selected All-Interscholastic, All-Star and All-State schoolboy hockey teams occasionally in the same season starting in 1929 through the 1930's. Only in one season did both newspapers agree on all the first team selections. In the 1928-29 season the two newspapers split on James McCaffrey and Fred Motta both of Classical. The Journal chose McCaffrey at the right wing position while the Bulletin chose Motta. The only time both outlets agreed on first team selections was in 1931. Cranston High School's Flying Green Thunderbolt dominated the Interscholastic League as well as all the first team selections in the Journal's All-State and the Bulletin's All-Star schoolboy sextets. In 1932 the Journal chose Henri Gauron of Mount St. Charles and Cranston's Brandt Nelson on the wings while the Bulletin chose Mount St. Charles' Olier Allard and Ken Phillips of Cranston on the first team.
