Opening Night
The Rhode Island Auditorium opened on February 18, 1926. The honor of being the first schoolboy hockey game played indoors in Rhode Island was accorded to Technical High and La Salle Academy on March 3, 1926. Matches between the teams of the Interscholastic League were usually played on the ponds like Roger Williams Park or York Pond. Technical High beat La Salle 8-1 in the preliminary game in the opening night of Rhode Island's new home of winter sports. Rhode Islanders had their first peek of amateur hockey when Pere Marquette, leaders of the Eastern Hockey League, battled Boston College to a 5-5 overtime draw for the entertainment of some 3000 potential hockey fans.
