In March 1926 forward Irving Read of East Providence High School scored 8 goals in a 13-0 romp over Pawtucket High School at the R.I. Auditorium. This was a new league record at the time and the 13 goals was the season high for team scoring. The 1925-26 season was the first season the Interscholastic Hockey League played indoors. The R.I. Auditorium officially opened in March that year and schoolboy teams were allowed use to finish their schedule. The use of the Arena helped avoid playing only one round of play and dealing with tie-breakers to decide the league leaders. Read opened the scoring in the first period. After teammate Gustafson's tally he scored a natural hat trick before scoring the eighth East Providence goal of the night.

After scoring the tenth goal in the second period Read finished off with the final two goals to end the barrage. He would go on to lead his team to the Interscholastic League championship (with a 9-1 record) by beating Hope 2-1 in their final meeting of the season. Read would also earn First Team All-State honors and again in 1926-27.
