Maroon Between the Pipes
La Salle Academy has had a long line of outstanding goalies since they joined schoolboy hockey officially in the 1928-29 season. Clem "Turkey" Harnedy '32 was the first outstanding La Salle goaltender. Harnedy was a three time all-stater (1930, 1931, 1932) leading his team to the Interscholastic Conference title in 1929-30 and 1931-32. He would go on to play at USC, the US National team and several years in the minor leagues. Tom Gormley picked up where "Turkey" left off and was picked all-state the following two seasons (1933, 1934).
Norm Desaulniers '52 was a first team all-state selection in 1952 and got into a Providence Reds game in the 1953-54 season. Bob Bellemore '59 made back-to-back all-state selections (1958, 1959) and would go on to lead Providence College to the 1963-64 ECAC Championship. Jack Ferreira '62 was picked all-state in 1962 before staring at Boston University and embarking on a front office career in the NHL.
